I have two author interviews/profiles in the new book Novel & Short Story Writers Market. (I talked to Sue Hepworth about getting published at 50+ and Kate Allan about writing regency romance.) It’s an American publication but the advice, ideas and contacts could be useful for British writers, too. Plus, I’m in it!

I think this new technology is a revelation.

Zest: Fast Track to Happiness

HBO’s ground-breaking dramas have pushed the envelope too far. It’s time to exercise a little restraint.

The Guardian books blog: Why I never want to hear Roger McGough Talk Talk again

It’s bad enough being put on hold while waiting to speak to a customer service rep, but it is even worse when you’re forced to listen to recorded poetry loops.

The Frisky: Pregnant in Public

Asking that immortal question, where did you pee on a stick?

Note to TV producers: Cheshire is not L.A. No offence.

Handbag: Relationship and Dating Dealbreakers

Those little tips that he might not be ‘the one’.

The Frisky: Dealbreaker - The Junk Food Junkie

The ups and downs (not least in my blood sugar levels) of dating The Man Who Wouldn’t Eat Real Food.

The Guardian TV blog: No Sex Please, They’re Teenagers

Rather than getting their knickers in a twist over saucy ads for Gossip Girl, the US media should worry about the unfair portrayal of sex and morality on TV.

The Guardian books blog: The Great Chick Lit Cover Up

Publishers are now adding chick lit-style covers to any book written by a woman, whether it fits the genre definition or not.

After 18 years, nine novels and one volume of short stories, it looks like American author Elinor Lipman might be about to get the recognition she deserves at last

Mslexia: The Joy of… motoring journalism

I talked to Maria McCarthy about petrolheads, Suzi Quattro and how easy it is(n’t) to break into this niche specialty…

Prima: Everyone’s going crafts crazy! Part 1 Part 2 Part 3

Prima readers have been craft-addicted for years - but now the rest of the world is catching on — and casting on, ha ha — too.

Mental Health Today: No More Hit and Miss Part 1 Part 2

How agencies in Sheffield are helping women and children in Sheffield escaping domestic abuse.

Increasing numbers of people are using the internet as a confessional.

The Guardian books blog: Polish up your prose with the help of a pro

Who would be your ideal mentor… in writing, or in life?

The Telegraph (Digital Life): The woof and the warp of the web

Knitting and other handicrafts are enjoying a renaissance thanks to the internet.
